The autonomous Balearic port authority are re-organising the moorings under their control after the discovery of a sizeable amount of fraudulent use by people who have not paid the necessary taxes or where the ownership has ceased due to the death of the original owner (in either case it then reverts back to the port authority to be re-allocated through a waiting list).
These moorings are non-transferable on a private basis.
The authorities admit that these illegal private deals are very difficult to detect and are urging the public, particularly those who have put themselves on a waiting list for a mooring, to denounce any illegal trafficking in these moorings.
Once these "irregularities" have been checked and when it has been found to be fraudulent the mooring will revert to the port authority and re-allocated according to the waiting list.
These waiting lists date back as far as 1986 and are publicly available from the Balearic port authority.
