200 MOORINGS FOR SALE ON THE COSTA DEL SOL

Benalmadena Town Hall announced last week that it plans to ´sell´ 200 moorage spaces in the town´s marina (about 20 per cent of the total), in a scheme aimed at raising 10 million euros for the municipal coffers and helping pay off Town Hall debt.

What will be sold are actually long-term rights of use, or leases, which last until 2022, the year the current concession contract for the marina runs out.

The moorage slips will be priced by size, with 12-metre, 18-metre and 30-metre spaces going for 26,261 euros, 70,107 euros and 131,248 euros, respectively.

Interested parties can get further details on terms and conditions from the Town Hall, which is taking purchase requests and will then review the applications over the next three months. Only one moorage space will be sold per person, and preference will be given to boat owners who already use the marina facilities.

The opposition PSOE party in the Town Hall denounced the moorage sales plan, indicating that it is no more than a short-term fix for Town Hall finances, and that ´in 10 years the costs will outweigh the income generated´.
