Organisers say that early estimates indicate a phenomenal rise in mooring charges due to the scarcity of places available.
Yacht club presidents along the Costas are already warning that most moorings have been booked by people who wish to follow the America´s Cup in their own craft. Those that are left are commanding high prices and only the very affluent have any chance of getting them.
Calls for port enlargements are being made by councils along the Costas. They are using the America´s Cup as a justification to speed through plans, with opponents such as ecology groups gearing up for some serious infighting to try and prevent them.
Some observers say that at present, moorings are being overvalued and the only way to counteract what´s happening is for some leisure ports to enlarge, something which they say is inevitable.
The cost of hiring a mooring for a seven metre craft during the event is now standing at 18,000 euros, one for a 20 metre craft costs 120,000 euros.
Speculators reacted quickly to the news that Valencia would be hosting the America´s Cup and have rented moorings in advance.
