This month I decided to try a couple of the new restaurants that have opened up in Puerto Portals this season.
The first one we ventured into, right on the front line is in fact the third restaurant to be opened in the port by the very successful and rapidly expanding, Capuccino group; it’s called MinMar which I suppose can be described as a nouvelle cuisine tapas bar.
I was working and entertaining clients in London back when nouvelle cuisine first hit ‘the smoke’ and my admiration for their weight loss menus has been reinforced by MiniMar; the delicate portions make sure that you don’t gain weight round the middle, whilst the bill certainly lightens your wallet.
Having said that with, the Capuccinos group’s tremendous track record and, the fact that it’s a very cool and stylish joint indeed, I’m sure it’ll pack the well-heeled tourists in during the Summer -but what about winter when it’s only the yacht dayworkers around the port?
I suppose I should have been warned by the fact that the next restaurant I decided to try had been ‘overwaxed lyrically’ by the ‘over the sell by date columnist’ of a local newspaper.
Key West is next to the Titanic bar and opened just before this summer.
If I was Michael Winner or A.A. Gill I suppose I would describe the meal we had there last month as epic, historic and priceless.
Epic, in that it took a long time for the single course we ordered to arrive. Historic, in that I believe the fish and prawns, that we were finally served, had been history for some time and had been defrosted!
Priceless? 62.80 Euros for two with a bottle of Vina Sol at 21.90!!
As a comparison Wellies sells it for around 10.50.
