Letters to the Editor

Dear John
Remember my letter in the Islander (May) about Nonex Espana S.L. and the difficulties we faced with trying to get my licence to go out and show and use the non explosive rock and concrete breaking capsule because no one in Spain was qualified to approve me as I was the only one who knew how to use it in Spain.
Well a little follow up for as you requested.
Well after nearly 4 months of blood sweat and tears it took a visit to the head man in Palma by a pretty girl who was informed I can collect my Shot firers licence on the 1st of September. This licence is way above what we had asked for as we are only using a Pyrotechnic, but even more it will now cover the whole of Spain and not just one of the autonomous regions of Spain i.e. the Balearics.
So now we can finally go out and show this product to quarries and construction companies, Civil Engineers, anyone who has the need to get rid of rock and concrete quietly. We have been inundated with enquiries over the summer but even though our product was approved last year I am only now approved to go out and show it.
One of our team and a director of the company who is a Yorkshire girl but has lived in Mallorca for many years knew the head man in Palma and whilst we got so far she offered to go in and try and find out after 4 months of the Spanish run around what the problem was.
She sat down in the head man’s office told him that we had not been able to get anyone anywhere in Spain to act on our problem. He said, ‘This is crazy leave it with me and come back tomorrow’.
She did and he informed her that he had arranged everything, I would be licensed immediately on the return of the relevant department from their annual summer holiday that being on the 1st of September.
He had sent instructions by letter for this to be done and he wondered why we had not started to work and demonstrate our product already.
He wonders, I wonder, but then again the thought of being locked up by the Guardia Civil for carrying around Pyrotechnics throughout Spain without paperwork that is 150% bullet proof as an Englishman/foreigner in Spain never really gave me any doubt I should just wait.
So now we are off, or would be if we had any money left. This delay has cost us dearly, and whilst we are capable of doing all of the above we just have no reserves left to promote our product through the trade journals or the National press in Spain which would really be what we should be doing.
However I just thought that you may like to know the final outcome, we knew we would win in the end, but at what cost?
Thanks for your earlier interest and I hope the summer has not been too strenuous for you in Mallorca.
Kind regards ,
David Brown
