Hello,
Well the I.Y.T. saga rumbles on. (see letter page )
I have seen some of the emails that are going back and forth from Mark Fry, C.E.O. of I.Y.T. in Ft Lauderdale and some people here- quite honestly I believe his and I.Y.T´s credibility are blown.
I got a veiled threatening email from his lawyer.
Unfortunately some local people are still out of pocket.
That however hasn´t stopped him from signing up other affiliated schools! (see news pages) They have been warned and I wish them the best of luck- I think they´ll need it!
The MCA have also been contacted by several people and it must be only a matter of time before they must withdraw their approval.
The strong rumour running round in Ft Lauderdale is that they have been sued by their landlord who wants them evicted and that they are scratching around for a new backer.
The Mike Wood story (Features section)-Greek justice?
Just look at the recent plane spotters story!
Let´s not get into ´guilty or not guilty´ but my question is, how can a member state of the EU railroad someone within a week into a sentence of 10 years plus a massive fine?
I know Mike and although an odd ball and there´s no doubt that he was there on board with the ´illegals´, in my opinion he must have been tricked and threatened in some way to go through with it.
I have been in touch with the British Embassy in Athens who gave me Mike´s lawyer´s ( Mrs Elizabeth Pouliou) telephone numbers.
I have tried telephoning and faxing many, many times at different hours of the day and get a recorded message- it´s all Greek to me!
Obviously a one-woman band.
This, I would guess, is a court appointed lawyer- what chance did he have? Not a lot is my guess.
I´ll keep trying and hopefully will have more news in the next issue.
ve had more than one call regarding the new Spanish jetski licence laws.
My information that they´re not only in force (as of March this year) but the boys in green have been told to rattle a few cages so that the message gets through. I know that you´ll be getting some terrible pressure to let them get onto the toys but remember, it will inevitably be you, the skipper or owner, that the Guardia throw the book at- you have been warned! See News pages.
As most of you will know, the party after the annual ´Big Boat Cup´ that has been organised by Vela 2000 in the past has been one of the local yachting events of the year.
Vela have now joined forces with Doyle to form Doylevela and you can win a double ticket to this year´s party and BBQ.(see front page for entry)
And the front page story? ´In this world, nothing can be said to be certain except death and taxes!´
Well blow me down, I can hardly believe it!
As we went to press Antonia Munar, president of the Mallorcan Council stated, referring to the current government, ´They can´t talk about quality tourism while in the same breath they´re against the further construction of golf courses and marinas´.
And, as you will see (news- RYA frauds), there are still some suckers willing to shell out for worthless pieces of paper!
You can check out the approved schools at- www.rya.org.uk
Have a good summer.
Regards,
John Rule
