SPANISH TAX INSPECTORS TARGET YACHTS

Yachtsmen in Spain have a new headache in store as local tax inspectors crack down on illegal employment in tourism and non-declared holiday rentals.
Alicante Province, Almeria and Huelva have been pinpointed as test areas for a thorough inspection campaign which will later be extended to other popular tourism areas.
Over 200 inspectors have been deployed for this summer campaign which will focus on coastline activities. Inspectors will be demanding to see property deeds and owners will be obliged to present a legal rental contract to prove the deal does not represent a fiscal fraud.
Inspectors will also be visiting leisure harbours and marinas regarding boat and yacht ownership, crewing and charters.
