A welcome addition to the various choices of eateries in Puerto Portals, is the new ´Tahini´ sushi bar and restaurant which is part of the very successful and cleverly marketed and managed ´Capuccino´ group.
It´s cool, stylish interior is a perfect retreat from the hot summer sun.
The interior design theme is black, grey and white, the waiters dressed in chic ´judo´ jackets with cummerbunds reflecting the authentic style.
Service is prompt and attentive without being overpowering.
Eat at the bar on comfortable stools watching the chef preparing the intricate sushi dishes or at the stylish black polished tables in the air-conditioned restaurant area.
In the evening, the outdoor section opens onto a Japanese styled garden with water garden and bamboo touches.
After a while you will notice the gentle background music which has been specially mixed for them (Cafe del Mar style) adding to the relaxed, calming ambience.
Now to the menu which is presented in a ´brochure style´ having colour photos of each dish. This is very useful for those who are not au fait with Japanese food.
There are 16 dishes to choose from including yakisoba noodles and two rice dishes.
Starters include miso soup, warm shrimp salad and green asparagus salad.
From the sushi section of the menu there is California roll, mixed sushi, special crab roll, mixed sashimi, tuna or salmon sashimi and tuna or salmon tartare.
The tempuras to choose from on the menu are: shrimp and vegetable or seafood.
Two hot dishes are offered; chicken yakitori and beef teppan yaki.
Rice bowls are fried or steamed.
There are six postres ranging from tahini cake to sorbets.
We sat at a table for 4 and chose the mixed sushi, which is an excellent choice to sample the various different sushi dishes with their own subtle and delicious flavours.
We also sampled their mixed sashimi: very fresh and with a touch of wasabi, soy and ginger declared delicious.
Then came a dish of prawn and vegetable tempura- light and perfectly crisp, as it should be.
From the hot dishes we chose the beef teppan yaki. This is juicy, first class, marinated steak flashed on a hot plate and served with asparagus tips and beans in a creamy sauce- delicious!
We didn´t need desert but just couldn´t resist tasting the tahini cake (like a mini cheese cake with sesame) and a mixed sorbet of mango and peach.
With a couple of bottles of wine our bill came to 110 Euros- well worth it and I´ll be definitely be going back and highly recommend you try it.
