Letters to the Editor

Dear John,
Just a quick note to say how impressed I was with Sloane Helicopters in particular Alistair Sutherland. 5 years ago my pals paid for a helicopter flight for my 40th birthday. Due to my leg injury and various other things I never got round to taking it. This year however I called Alistair on the night before my birthday and asked if it was ok to go, and he said, “no problems”. Well I was left speechless, not only did he teach me a bit about how the controls worked before we went up, he later let me fly the chopper for a bit!!! I cannot explain to you what a wonderful experience it was to see this beautiful island from a helicopter and would recommend it to anyone, especially as a present for someone. Also, for all you yacht skippers with loads of money and time on your hands, why not learn to fly a helicopter as well? It would look good on your C.V. plus its so much more impressive when you’re ‘bulllshitting’ in bars; everyone seems to be a yacht skipper nowadays but you don´t meet many helicopter pilots!!! Thanks again Alistair and Sloane.
Regards, Big Phil (ex Bermuda bar) Palma

Dear John,
Just a quikie to all your readers, and our customers old and new. The Escape Bar in Placa Drassana la Lonja has at last undergone its long talked about refit. Our opening hours are now 7.30am Monday to Friday, and from 9.30am Saturday and Sunday. We have installed a small but adequate kitchen to provide a selection of breakfast menus and homemade dishes of the day. Prepared, of course, by our house masterchef. In addition to all the ESCAPE had to offer before the refit, we would like to offer another simple free service to the yachts, and the crew, and the dayworker. As we all know access to the yards for potential crew and dayworkersis is difficult, the number of yachts is increasing and the need for crew and dayworkers is also increasing. With this in mind we would like to offer the opportunity to Captains and dayworkers to use the Escape as a central contact point. Captains can call the bar´s telephone number 971 724968, to find crew and dayworkers (a little like Lauderdale calling the crew houses looking for dayworkers). Crew and dayworkers use the bar as a place to meet, look for and find work. We have also provided a notice board to promote this. For those who would like to join myself and Keti for a free re-opening drink at the ESCAPE cut out the advert on page 21 in this issue and bring it with you. Regards to all, have a great season, see you soon,
Cheers Simon

Dear all,
Sadly our good friend Rufus (MY Atlantic Lady) is unwell. He is such a character, we feel that many readers will know him and remember him fondly, even if they are unaware that he is currently in the UK under going chemotherapy. As a show of support, (as this is all any of us can do) we have been collecting money for Rufus so that he is able to cover his bills, here in Mallorca until he is able to return. If you would like to contribute to this collection, and you were unable to make the special curry night that we held for him, the fund is still open for your welcome contributions. May I take this moment to thank all those that made it to the curry evening ; Rufus was very touched by what we did and is looking forward to thanking all of you in person. To make a donation you can leave it at the Homefinders office in the old town of Palma.
Thanks, Jodi and the team at Homefinders.
