CROATIA GETTING TOUGH ON CHARTERING

Croatia has announced new cruising laws that will effect foreign flagged yachts that wish to charter. Initially, the automatic renewal of old permits will not be happening this year as before.

There are also a number of draconian measures being applied.

1/. A list of all the persons aboard has to be submitted for the whole year- this of course is virtually impossible.

2/. This year the total number of guests for the whole year must not exceed the total that can legally be carried at any one time.

3/. From next year it is expected that only locally flagged yachts will have permission to charter.
These measures are expected to effect not only charter yachts but yachts with ‘shared ownership’.
As one charter broker said the only way that one can charter in Croatia is to pick up guests in somewhere like Italy.
