SEMOURS’S
Despite being begged by one selfish couple not to tell anyone else about Seymour´s restaurant in Palma Nova (sorry Peter and May) I´m afraid that because it´s so good, I just had to blab about it! In the most unexpected place, almost opposite McDonald´s and at the end of a shopping gallery with trinkets, clothes and various other touristy things, Seymour´s is strictly for us residents (and of course our guests) and is open through the year. There is a small inner saloon and an outer courtyard dining area that sits about 34. Martin and Vannessa who have been running the show for a couple of years are, this year, joined by John Tanner in the kitchen, who is from Plymouth, Devon. Head chef, Martin Sveen who hails from Denmark was a former head chef of the Radisson, Sydney, and sous chef at Ariel Sands, Bermuda: Michael Douglas´ family Hotel. In what they describe as, ‘a combined effort’ that really is a Scandinavian/Asian/English ´fusion´ they have recently announced their new 2005 menu. They are also offering a daily menu which is on the chalkboard. They offer 8 starters, 3 soups, 3 pastas, 3 fish and 4 meat courses with some very ´serious´ home made desserts! There were 4 of us: we chose, for the first course, beef carpaccio with mushrooms, parmesan and olive oil; warm goats cheese and grilled vegetable salad; Bermuda fish chowder with spicy sherry pepper and mussels and clam soup. As a main course we went for; baked salmon with parmesan and corriander crust, Thai green curry sauce and rice; Bermuda fish cakes, sour cream and salsa sauces and pineapple salad; Sishuan spiced duck breast with Andalucian salad and vegetable spring roll and the beef carpaccio. To follow we had a selection of cheese and one of us had the (described as Òto die forÓ) chocolate mouse cake with honey caramel sauce. The starters range from 5 to 8 Euros; the soups at 4-5; pastas at 8-11; fish 12- 14; meat 12-17; side orders at 3 and desserts 4-8. This is a place I highly recommend and booking is essential!
