During the recent Palma boat show the chamber of commerce held a meeting with local and central government representatives in an appeal to deal with the matriculation tax (12% of value of vessels over 7.5m) that hampers the development of chartering in Spanish waters.
The president of the local charter association drew attention to the various dignitaries that Italy had introduced specific legislation for yacht chartering, whilst the director general of the Balearic Tax authority indicated that there may be a way to have a local Balearic dispensation adopted.
The meeting was organised by the local chamber of commerce which is now headed by a new president, Joan Gual de Torrella, who is a keen yachtsman.
