FORMENTOR MOORINGS DENOUNCED

Following an individual’s denouncement early in August, the association for the defence of the yachtsmen of the Mediterranean, known as A.N.D have filed another against the company, Hisambla SL, that have held the concession to control moorings in the bay of Formentor since 2001. The mooring rates range from 8 Euros per day for craft under 8 metres up to 180 Euros per day for yachts up to 40 metres.

Following the original denuncia suggesting that the concessionaries have extended their designated 22,335 square metre area, the association have had aerial photographs taken and a number of their members have GPS plotted the actual limits of the anchors that Hismbla have sunk and collect money for the use of.

From the photographs and plotting it is estimated that the actual area that Hisambla have covered is more than a million square metres which is practically the whole of the bay.

The denuncia is now being studied by the General Direction of “Costas” in Madrid and a decision is expected later in September.

These controlled anchorages have been introduced around the Balearic islands because of the environmental damage (particularly to the prairies of posedonia grass) that is said to be done by the traditional self anchoring of yachts. A.N.D is vehemently against the restriction of the utilization of the public areas of the Mediterranean.
