Situated in the new Plaza Mirador in Bendinat, this restaurant opened its doors a little over three months ago, yet is already proving to be a success with a busy menu del dia lunch and “bookings only” for dinner.
Their lunchtime menu del dia (3 courses inc a glass of wine for 15 Euros) is an excellent way to try their Italian biased cuisine.
The 100 seater restaurant is bright and spacious with large picture windows and one wall tastefully decorated with murals. In this section there are wicker seats with low tables where you can take either an aperitif or after dinner digestive.
We chose the menu del dia which offered fresh tomato soup, calves liver or, the classic Italian dish of vitello tonnato (fine slices of cold veal served with a creamy tuna sauce) It was delicious!
We both then went for the fresh, pan-fried sea bass served with fresh vegetables- al dente and not boiled to death as in so many restaurants.
From the choice of desserts we chose fresh strawberries and cream and mint / chocolate chip ice cream. With a bottle of Vina Sol (at 15 Euros) the total bill came to 48.15 Euros.
The menu del dia changes every day.
The a la carte menu offers a selection of 7 pizzas from a vegetarian pizza pane at 6 Euros to 13 Euros for a seafood pizza.
There is a choice of 14 “soups and appetisers” ranging from a garden vegetable soup at 6.50 Euros to sautéed prawns and lobster at 18 Euros.
One very interesting and welcomed alternative regarding some of their main courses is a choice between what they describe as “standard” or “petite” dishes.
There are 10 “pastas and risottos” to select from, ranging from parpadelle or linguine at 12 Euros for a standard and 8 Euros for petite to Tortellini with lobster at 25 Euros standard / 15 Euros petite.
Their 8 fish dishes range from red tuna steak at 15 Euros to “the Real fish platter” at 28Euros.
They offer 11 main meat dishes ranging from a “petite” chcken cacciatoria at 8 Euros to a chateaubriand at 35 Euros.
There is also a selection of salads and side dishes but all main meat and fish dishes are accompanied by a selection of seasonal vegetables.
They are open from 12 noon with last orders at 12 midnight. They are closed for Sunday lunch until the end of September.
Apart from being a very smart new restaurant with excellent service and great cuisine the Real de Vellon is blessed with the advantage of a massive and adjacent car park.
It is very easy to find as it is right next to the new Bendinat roundabout, just below the Eroski SYP supermarket.
