On the 2nd of January 2007, all European Citizens living in Mallorca were invited to welcome the New Year with a glass of cava and exquisite canapés, at the spectacular14th century fortress, Castillo de Bellver.
The event was a great success with over 650 guests gathering to celebrate together with government authorities, representatives of foreign consulates, and various directors of international associations.
Among the political figures were:
Kate Mentink (Councillor for Foreign Residents and Tourism in Calvią, and Director of the Department for European Citizens in the regional Government) Francisca Bennassar (Councillor for Tourism in Palma) and Rosa Estarąs (Vicepresident of the Regional Government of the Balearic Islands) plus the British and German Consuls and Town Hall Mayors.
