THE NEW SPANISH MARITIME LAW REFORM
The most important part of the Spanish Maritime Law is still under 19th Century Commercial Code from 1885 and partially in the most recent Port and Marine Law of 1992, ( Ley 27/92 de Puertos del Estado y de la Marina Mercante) During recent years events like the increasing immigration through maritime routes, disasters with fuel carrying vessels like the Prestige accident in Galicia in 2002, commercial fishing and its regulation within the European Union, international terrorism, and the expansion of nautical tourism have demonstrated that the old legislation was no longer effective.
