PALMA PORT AUTHORITY
TIGHTENS UP ENTRY

The Palma port authority has announced that they intend to tighten up security into the parts of the port that they control.
Sources have said that this has been motivated by both a need for tighter general security along with the legal implications of damage, injury etc. and insurance cover.

This move is expected to be a particular blow to the ´illegal´ workers who are part of a boat yard´s normal working force, which in the past, has been viewed with a blind eye.

The authorities say they intend to perform spot checks on anyone trying to enter and found within their premises and to scrutinise crew lists more carefully.

Bona fide companies that are on the authority’s census list are promised normal entry and exit but inclusion on this list requires full compliance with labour and tax laws plus a considerable insurance liability cover.

The latter being the stumbling block to many otherwise bona fide individuals and companies because of the very high premiums.

This move by the port authority in essence will, if carried out vigilantly, only prove to increase the costs of labour etc. within their facilities.
