On a long weekend break in Cal Ratjada with the wife and kids, half board was included at the hotel, leaving us to find somewhere for lunch. On Friday we took a mid-day drive and ended up in Sant Llorenc de Cardassar where, according to my guide book exists a highly recommended restaurant called “Es Moli Den Bou”. We asked some locals to point us in the right direction, found it and parked. The building is a restored “Molino” and beautifully done. We entered into a reception area and were immediately attended and lead up a spiral staircase within the cylindrical part of the building to a light and spacious dining area with an open kitchen cleverly glassed-in affording full view of the chefs at work, at the same time acoustically isolating the noisy work of a busy kitchen. It was immediately obvious that we had happened upon a restaurant not at all suitable for a mid-day meal with two noisy young kids in tow. By now it was too late and would be extremely embarrassing to get up and leave… Our Maitre d’ - Joan Amengual came to the rescue and offered us a most refreshing glass of Cava, and assured us that the kids would be no problem, and the chef would prepare something especially for them. We decided to have the Petit Menu de Degustacion which is 5 courses at €65 per person. There is also a Grand Menu de Degustacion and of course the a la Carte Menu. OK Ok, yes it is expensive, but rarely in my life have I eaten such imaginative, fabulous food. I’m sure we had at least 7 plates and by the time we were finished we were both very full and astonished at the superb quality of everything and everyone involved. The service was outstanding, and the waiting time between courses unnoticed. Maybe they secretly sped things up for us, knowing that our children would soon become impatient? According to the Michelin Guide this restaurant has 1 Star. Having eaten in 2 and 3 star Michelin restaurants in various countries, I honestly think Es Moli Den Bou deserves at least a 2 star rating. I congratulate the Chef and Proprietor Tomeu Caldentey and all his staff. To summarise: Expensive but worth every penny. Very suitable for a special meal for couples, and highly suitable for charter guests and discerning yacht owners.
