Recent developments at O.S. Safety Equipment S.L. have included certification as the Lloyd's approved provider of marine safety equipment & services to Lloyd's classed vessels. Commercial director Yessica Llabres explains; “In order to meet the constantly evolving safety regulations and to provide the best possible service to our clients, Oscar Sierra has an ongoing training programme scheduled for our technical personnel, a continuous investment in new technology, and close liaison with shipyards, captains, class societies and surveyors. O.S. has Lloyd's approval for all safety related services, including: Servicing, programming and certification of E.P.I.R.B.S. In this respect we are authorised agents for Kannad and ACR.” “We supply, design and install fixed fire control systems, together with the service / supply of all types of Marine Approved portable extinguishers. Plus we are agents/distributors for ABS and Fireboy products who are both leaders in the world of marine fire extinguishing systems.” “O.S. is the only fully licensed service station for the testing and certification of high pressure gas and air cylinders for marine equipment in Mallorca. This includes B.A. sets, dive cylinders and of course gas cylinders for fire control installations, both fixed and portable.” “One of our core activities, the supply and servicing of liferafts, has been enhanced with an expanded product range and new installations in our workshops. The target is to expedite “turnaround“ time for liferaft servicing. Many clients are unaware that every raft must undergo a 48 hour inflation test…this means that the minimum time required to service a raft is 3 or 4 days !!” “This has always been a problem area, especially in the high season from February until the end of June, when we can sometimes have up to 200 rafts waiting for service. Early booking, careful programming and a close liaison with captains, shipyards and agents is highly important here. We have a a “fleet” of fully serviced liferafts available for hire or loan where for example, a broker needs to conduct a sea trial, or an owner changes his plans at short notice, The real answer is to book early. We email hundreds of reminders to yachts each year. We find that many yacht crew have never seen an inflated liferaft. This service is provided free of charge by appointment. “We also offer a rib repair service and stock a range of AquaPro ribs which make excellent tenders, especially where the weight of the tender is an issue.
